Sarah is an Emergency Medicine attending physician, Wilderness Medicine Director in Burlington, VT, and Associate Professor at the Larner College of Medicine. She founded and directs the medical school and residency Wilderness Medicine program and is the Wilderness Medicine Fellowship Director. She is fellowship trained in medical education and has a FAWM and DiMM through the Wilderness Medical Society (WMS). She co-chairs the WMS Women in Wilderness Medicine committee and is a conference chair for the WMS. She is president for Vermont Wilderness Medicine, LLC, a wilderness medicine education company that empowers leaders through backcountry adventure and wilderness medicine training.

Throughout her medical training, she has maintained a reservoir of joy for life by early morning backcountry ski tours, cycling mountain passes, practicing ashtanga yoga, and running up any mountain she can find.

She believes it is the responsibility of all educators to create environments where humility, vulnerability and humor can allow students and faculty to learn with honesty and authenticity. She is committed to developing and supporting pathways for emergency medicine residents and wilderness medicine fellows to volunteer with Three Peaks Medical Clinic. Sarah and her family live and work on their off-grid 100-acre homestead in Huntington, VT, dotted by sugar maples, gardens, and too many chickens, all surrounded by granite topped peaks simply begging to be run or skied every day.
